AT THE CROSS

AT THE CROSS ——-

JIM PECHA, B.ARCH. CHRISTIAN ARTIST,
MINISTER OF CREATIVITY, COPYRIGHT 2014 —————

Matza Martinez painted pictures of the brilliant white cross, which she imagined she prayed at within her old adobe one room home.
She always saw another person with her at the base of the cross, but didn’t know who it was. She lived her days in confusion as she moved about the room in partial reality and fantasy. She was simply reacting to the effects of the abuse she experienced as a child. She knew no one wanted to be around her or hear about her feelings; so she mainly stayed in her house near the old town Church in Albuquerque. During the early afternoon, when few people went to the Church, she would put on her white shirt and blue jeans and go into the Church and sit in the same pew about half way down the nave. She would pray to God to help her with such intensity that after about a half hour she would feel herself swaying back and forth, feeling the spirit inside her. She would restrain herself until she got back to her room and then take all her clothes off and writhe on the floor naked. She then would run around the room screaming and singing spiritual songs and chants. Finally, after exhausting herself she would go to her canvas and begin painting. The other figure in the painting was her only friend.
