BEHIND THE BUSH

BEHIND THE BUSH ———-

While hiking with Lisa through the thick growth in the Jemez Mountains we had to stop when we heard panting and moans behind the bush ahead of us; so I took this picture and we instead thought about where we were, next to hundreds of feet of volcanic ash from one of earth’s largest volcanoes. The ancient people easily dug caves into the ash for homes on the side of the cliff, which overlooked their crops along the stream and lovers in the bush. It was a partially overcast day, great for strenuous walks. Lisa loved this mountain; so much to see and find. Many of the old ruins were covered by shrubs, but if you were careful, you could find the stone walls and shards of pottery. Finally, the sounds were of relief and rest; so we continued on our hike, excusing ourselves as we passed the couple and their watch dog, who was watching them, not for strangers coming along the trail, a common occurrence.
