GILA CLIFF DWELLINGS ————-

The cliff dwellings are within the Gila Mountains, north of Silver City,New Mexico. It was the stomping grounds of Geronimo, the last Apache holdout, who led his people against the army of the United States. The dwellings were built in the 13th century. The river floods nearby and there are frequent forest fires which go unattended, which gives the mountains a smoky appearance in the valleys. Most spent the night in Silver City and start out on exploration in the morning. It’s a relatively small area of ruins, but the ride through the mountains is worth the trip.
