HOT CONES, RIGHT HERE ———–

Millions of years ago hot gasses seeped upward around the Jemez volcanoe. The gasses were hottest at the bottom baking a wider area of volcanic ash and cooler near the top, which made them narrow. Then erosion ate away the the unbaked ash leaving the inverted cone shaped formations. The road was dirt to the cones, narrow and rutted in spots on Indian land. They are striking against the blue sky. There are many of these cones, but few have roads to them.
