NEW MEXICO CLOUDS ————-

JIM PECHA, B.ARCH. CHRISTIAN ARTIST

Beginning this week moisture from Mexico starts flowing north over New Mexico. Around ten am the clouds start building up over the Central mountain chain, Sandia, manzano, Jemez and Santa Fe. They build and build all afternoon and then, depending on the winds, move either west over Albuquerque or over the eastern areas of the state “and rain.” They are magnificent cloud structures and take many shapes. When they reach about 20 to 25 thousand feet they flatten out into an anvil shape. The moisture in the clouds can be blown upward over and over by the updraft winds and can create large sized hail when they finally fall. The clouds billow up so quickly that you can watch them get larger and larger. These clouds are as much an interesting part of the scenery as the landscape.
