When the clouds reach an altitude of about 20,000 feet, the tops are blown off into the shape of an anvil. Alex and I were watching the process as we hiked across the colorful New Mexico mesas. We were both in our mid-thirties, old enough to have some stratifications similar to what we saw in front of us. We both had some red passion that was now being exposed by erosional forces of life. The winds of change and the daily thunderstorms carved deeply into both of our lives. We met participating in an art show where most of my hikes were initiated. The common interest in art was a bond that was a foundation for all our interactions, from simple appreciation of the beauty within the landscape to the beauty of the human body, mainly hers. With the agreement that no one else would see the pictures, she would pose next to the rough sandstone formations, especially striking against the red. Once we hiked far enough to exhaust our physical bodies, we would relax and begin delving into our emotions and intellect. We both felt a spiritual force, which guided and directed our lives. The spiritual really gets stimulated when our conversations turned sexual, which is one of the reasons I’m convinced the spiritual and sexual are connected in the circle of life. The intensely physical sexual was being guided by the spiritual winds as the clouds were forming an anvil.
