“Strike a pose to fit within this artwork,” she said. Looking at her painting I tried to make a curve when she said, “take your shirt off, at least, the stripe design doesn’t fit in the naturalness of the picture.” Fitting into an imaginative painted environment wasn’t easy, but I enjoyed being part of the art. It reminded me of art classes at the university when we were required to draw complete full body naked self portraits from looking into a mirror, then placing a created environment around ourselves. She couldn’t resist her power as the “creator” of the painting, “take the rest of your clothes off now, I might want more of you.” I could feel instantly the problem people have with God, their Creator, fear that he will ask them to do something they didn’t want to do. Will he embarrass them? What will he want to reveal? Those art classes were a good exercise in self-revelation when the class critiqued each other’s naked self portraits and explained the environment they created around themselves. God created people in his image and then created an environment, earth and the universe to be within. What does this environment say about God?
